Find Some Joy

Today I saw a dad and son on the sidewalk. The little boy was riding a bike with the biggest smile on his face! He was clearly loving life and enjoying the moment. The dad, on the other hand, seemed less than thrilled. He honestly looked like the weight of life was too heavy for him. He didn’t seem to notice the beautiful weather or the joy on the child’s face.

Adult responsibilities take so much joy from us. Not to mention the awareness of all the terrible things in the world. Sometimes, ignorance really is bliss. I remember being a kid and thinking that dandelions were beautiful… Then, one day, I learned that they’re weeds.

We can’t become innocent or ignorant again, but maybe we can find child-like joy if we just focus on the moment we’re in. Enjoy the feeling of the sun on your skin. Notice the color of the sky. Make a wish on a dandelion. Be thankful for where you are right now. Remember Christ’s sacrifice and God’s love for you. I hope you can all feel the joy I saw on that little boy’s face today, even with all of your adult concerns!

Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 “So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from him?”
